35 g of fiber yesterday

The bread from Wegman's was so good I had three pieces of toast for breakfast, two with lunch as a sandwich, two buttered as a snack and then one in the evening (4 g of fiber each slice.)  Plus 3 cups of popcorn is 3 g fiber and 35 g total.

Well, I tell you what:  I'm not hungry.  I may still be eating but I am full, like a stuffed turkey.

That's pretty good :)!

12 g of fiber for breakfast

I can't hardly believe it:  because of the new bread - it's a sourdough Seven Grain bread from Wegman's - I had three slices with sausage gravy for a total of 12 g of fiber - half the goal for the day!

What can I do for lunch/dinner at 4-6 g of fiber per serving?

Asian pears tasted really good yesterday, a medium size is 4.5 g fiber.  Article below:

   
Soluble Fiber
Soluble fiber is the type of dietary fiber derived from the gum, pectin and mucilage compounds found inside a plant cell. Of an Asian pear's 4.4 grams of dietary fiber, about 1 gram is soluble fiber. When the soluble fiber from a pear enters your digestive system, it swells with water and forms a thick, jelly-like mass. This mass slows the rate at which your body digests food and absorbs nutrients like glucose or cholesterol. A high intake of soluble fiber may lower your risk of diabetes and high blood cholesterol.

Insoluble Fiber

Insoluble fiber consists of the compounds that make up rigid plant cell walls, including lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose. A medium-size Asian pear provides approximately 3 grams of insoluble fiber. This type of fiber does not absorb water. Instead, it can help regulate bowel movements by adding bulk to stool. A diet that includes plenty of foods high in insoluble fiber may also decrease your risk of digestive disorders like hemorrhoids, diverticular disease, duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease and colon cancer.

Considerations

If you want to increase your fiber intake by eating more high-fiber foods such as Asian pears, be aware that moving too rapidly from a diet low in fiber to one high in fiber can cause digestive side effects like gas, abdominal cramping and diarrhea. Add fiber-rich foods into your regular meals gradually, over a period of two to three weeks or longer, if needed, to avoid these problems. Drink at least six to eight glasses of water each day. Talk to your doctor if you experience side effects that persist or worsen as you eat more fiber.

So my tummy is getting rumbly.  Last week we had pinto beans made from scratch and when I ate two servings in two days, that's where it started.  A video from Dr. Oz said that it's the balance between soluble and insoluble fiber intake is the cause of spending too much time in the bathroom or too many trips to the bathroom.

This blogging started two - three weeks ago.

Cinnamon bread from Wegman's

OK - I can deal with this:  Cinnamon Raisin Bread with Whole Grains with 1.5 g fat per slice and 3 g fiber.  And it is very fresh and actually has too much sugar on top, to my taste.

Seven Grain bread has 4 g fiber and 2 g fat.  Boy, this is nice!

Spicy tuna gimbap

  The dish I want to make uses spicy tuna, rice and laver.  These website show how it is assembled, although I only am looking for the mac-and-cheese version, with canned spicy tuna and three ingredients total.  It is delicious.

Surprised by hunger

I am surprised that I am hungry, especially because I feel like I am eating frequently and a lot.  I had a tasty dinner and ate a little less than normal, but quite enough.  (We probably should have ordered more pizza.)

This morning I was hungry.  I've eaten
a plum
a whole wheat roll with butter
one inch of banana
coffee with half and half and sugar
and a small peanut bar.

Good grief - that's a lot of food.

It also surprises me how full I feel.  Night before last, after eating dinner and then one of the whole wheat rolls with a slice of cheese, I was very full.  I don't know how eating fresher foods with fiber changes how I feel full but it is different.

Again, it is a privilege to eat good food.

Yeast bread with fiber - Panera's



Bagels, 6 g fiber - bread 3 g fiber.  Rolls I don't know.
I really like the miche bread, bagels not so much.  I'm putting everything in the freezer.

You know, this concept of 'normal' food is strange.  I have been craving yeast bread with fiber, since starting to eat all these vegetables, beans, etc.  I mean, really, I'm a saltines kind of person, with peanut butter and honey.  

The food cooked for dinner takes more time, attention.  Even shopping today at the Latino store and bread store (Panera's) is something I don't normally have time for.  So I need to do less - go back to normal with the goal of increasing the overall amount of fiber in my family's diet:  one, by simply having the ingredients available.  I found rice that has 3 g of fiber per serving that tastes very good.
